Intermountain Healthcare has been named one of the nations most technologically savvy hospital systems. Intermountain Healthcare is a nonprofit health system based in Salt Lake City, with over 26,000 employees. Serving the healthcare needs of Utah and southeastern Idaho residents, Intermountain's system of 21 hospitals, clinics, health plans and physicians provides excellent medical care at affordable rates. Intermountain Healthcare is an organization driven by a mission of excellence in the provision of healthcare services to communities in the Intermountain region. The mission of Intermountain includes a commitment to provide care to those with a medical need, regardless of ability to pay. At Intermountain Healthcare, medically necessary and generally available healthcare services are accessible to residents in the communities we serve, regardless of ability to pay. Intermountain Healthcare was founded on April 1, 1975. Prior to Intermountain, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints operated most of the hospitals in the region. The church decided in 1974 it would no longer operate the hospitals and decided it would donate its fifteen hospitals as a system to the Intermountain community. The church did this on the condition that a not-for-profit organization would be formed to operate the hospitals on behalf of the communities they served. At its inception, board members of Intermountain Healthcare were unpaid volunteers. Raising funds was done through the bond market and within just a few years, several additional hospitals asked to join the IHC organization. Awards and Recognition Whether it's providing cancer, heart or newborn care, or caring for a child who sprains an ankle at team practice, excellent clinical care is the basis of our mission — our first and greatest concern. That's why Intermountain and its hospitals and clinics were widely recognized in 2006 for clinically excellent, cost-effective care.
